Lionsgate has selected Jan. 30, 2015, as the U.S. opening date for horror-suspenser “Lazarus” — two days before the 49th Super Bowl, or Super Bowl XLIX, and the first title on the date.
Cast includes Olivia Wilde (pictured above with Chris Hemsworth), Mark Duplass, Donald Glover, Evan Peters and Sarah Bolger in a story of research students mapping the human brain accidentally kills one of their own — unwittingly unlocking a deadly force by reanimating their colleague.
David Gelb directs from a script by Luke Dawson and Jeremy Slater. The producer is horror specialist Jason Blum, who helped birth the “Paranormal Activity,” “Insidious” and “Purge” franchises.
The top U.S. opening on a Super Bowl weekend was racked up in 2008 by “Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert Tour” with $31 million, followed by “Dear John” with $30.4 million in 2009.
