Nine Lives: Common & Jonny Lee Miller to Star in Sci-Fi Adaptation

According to Deadline, Academy Award winner Common (John Wick: Chapter 2) and Elementary star Jonny Lee Miller have been tapped to star in the forthcoming film adaptation Nine Lives, based on acclaimed author Ursula K. Le Guin’s sci-fi dark comedy novelette of the same name. Filming is expected to begin in the summer of 2019.

Set on a moon-base for off-world drilling, Nine Lives will follow the story of two jaded workers whose excitement at the prospect of incoming human company is dashed when they are instead sent ten clones. The novelette was published in 1969 by Playboy Magazine which had earned a nomination in the Nebula Award for Best Novelette.

The film will be directed by Siri Rodnes who will has also co-written the screenplay along with Tom Basden. The producers are Quark Films’ Gavin Humphries along with Slaughterhouse Rulez producer Josephine Rose of Bandit Country.

Le Guin (Earthsea series) is an American novelist known for her works in fantasy and science fiction. She mostly written about topics concerning politics, gender, religion, sexuality and ethnography. She has achieved so many awards including a Hugo Award and World Fantasy Award. Le Guin unfortunately passed away earlier this year at the age of 88.

Common is best known for his roles in various films like: Suicide Squad, John Wick: Chapter 2 and Selma. He will next be seen in the movies: The Hate U Give starring Amandla Stenberg and Regina Hall; Common will next be seen in films such as: the crime drama film The Kitchen co-starring alongside Tiffany Haddish and The Handmaid’s Tale star Elisabeth Moss; and the action film Eve opposite Jessica Chastain.
