Henry Golding is already poised to have a very big year. He’s the lead opposite Constance Wu in Warner Bros.’ Crazy Rich Asians (out Aug. 17) and will then be seen in Paul Feig’s female-driven thriller A Simple Favor (Sept. 14) opposite Blake Lively.
Now he’s booked his next project: playing the lead in Monsoon, a new film from writer/director Hong Khaou (Lilting). In the drama, Golding will play a man who travels from London to his birth country of Vietnam to scatter his parents’ ashes.
Golding will play Kit, a British Vietnamese man who left Saigon with his family as boat refugees when he was young. After growing up in London, he returns to Vietnam feeling a lack of connection to his home country and culture.
Tracy O’Riordan is producing the project, which is financed by BFI and BBC. Lizzie Francke and Rose Garnett are executive producing.
Golding, who is currently based in Singapore after growing up in London, will make his feature film debut as the lead in Warner Bros.’ Crazy Rich Asians, based on Kevin Kwan’s popular book. It was a major get for the actor, who was previously known for hosting TV travel shows. He stars opposite Anna Kendrick and Lively in Lionsgate’s thriller A Simple Favor, which was recently moved up to a September release. He is repped by Paradigm, Megan Silverman at Avenue Artists and Stone, Genow.
